Yoga in Essaouira — Sunrise & Sunset Beach Sessions
Sunrise or sunset flow on the sand, paced for every level, with the sound of the Atlantic instead of a studio playlist. Mats provided.
We run on the beach south of Diabat, far enough from town that it is quiet even in August. The surface is firm sand, which is more forgiving than a studio floor on your joints and slightly less stable — which quietly makes everything harder and does more for your balance than any cue an instructor can give you.
Sessions are sixty minutes and open to everyone. The flow is a slow vinyasa: joint mobilisation, sun salutations, a standing sequence, balance work, and a long closing rest. Options get offered up and down throughout, so complete beginners and people with a daily practice can be on the sand together without either being bored or lost.
Sunrise is the quieter session — cool, still, usually before the wind gets up, and the light comes up behind you over the land while you face the ocean. Sunset is warmer and busier, and finishes with the sun going down in front of you. Essaouira is a windy town, so if the afternoon wind is up we move the session into the lee of the dunes or shift the time. We will always message you rather than let you turn up to something unworkable.
Mats, blocks and straps are provided and cleaned between sessions. Classes are small — usually six to ten people — and we teach in English or French.
It pairs well with everything else on this list. A sunrise session before a morning surf lesson, or a sunset flow after a day on the quads, is the combination our returning guests book most.

Questions about this activity
I have never done yoga. Is this beginner-friendly?
Yes. The flow is slow, everything is explained, and options are given for every posture. Beach yoga is actually a gentle place to start because there is no mirror and nobody is watching you.
What happens if it is windy?
Essaouira is windy — that is its reputation. We move to the sheltered side of the dunes or change the time. If conditions are genuinely unworkable we cancel and you pay nothing, and we will always tell you in advance rather than let you show up.
Do I need my own mat?
No, mats, blocks and straps are provided and cleaned between sessions. Bring your own if you prefer.
Can I book a private session?
Yes, for individuals, couples or groups, at a time that suits you. Message us on WhatsApp and we will quote you.
